NDIC daily activity report no. 19623

Tuesday, October 27, 2026

Tuesday's report 19623 had three new development permits. Oasis Petroleum North America got one in Williams County's Painted Woods field, Petro-Hunt another Joyce well in Divide County's Skabo field, and Whiting a confidential wildcat in McKenzie County. Three wells came off confidential status, two Devon wells and a Slawson well. Devon also renewed five permits on its Sorenson 29-32 pad in Mountrail County. The rig count rose by one to 38.

Highlights

  • 3 permits approved: Oasis Petroleum North America LLC, Williams County (Iverson Federal 5404 11-35 2B, Painted Woods field, drill-back outside its spacing unit, which runs from 154N-104W south into 153N-104W); Petro-Hunt, L.L.C., Divide County (Joyce 160-98-4B-16-1H, Skabo field, confidential, unit of sections 4, 9 and 16 of 160N-98W); Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation, McKenzie County (Knute Federal 5104 34-24 2B, wildcat, confidential, drilling unit of sections 22 and 23 of 151N-104W)
  • 3 wells released from confidential status: Devon Energy Williston (McKenzie County, Grinnell field, and Williams County, Painted Woods field) and Slawson Exploration (Mountrail County, Kittleson Slough field, Warlock Federal 1-15-13H)
  • 5 permits renewed: Devon Energy Williston, Sorenson 29-32 wells in Mountrail County's Alger field, a proposed drill-back outside its spacing unit

The active rig count was 38, up 1 from the prior report.

What it means for mineral owners: The Oasis well's spacing unit is a long one. It takes in section 34 and the west edge of section 35 in 154N-104W, then sections 3, 10, 15 and 22 and the west edges of sections 2, 11, 14 and 23 in 153N-104W. If you own minerals in that strip, this is a well you could share in, so watch for a division order. The Petro-Hunt permit is the second Joyce well in two days on the same Divide County unit.
